Role Summary

The Accounts Manager will primarily manage the day to day running of the Accounts Team, ensuring workloads are prioritised accordingly within a dynamic, fast-paced environment as well as being responsible for the processing of weekly and monthly payroll.

As Accounts Manager you will take full ownership for managing and maintaining the purchase ledger, managing credit control and ensuring the sales ledger is up to date and will ensure that all financial controls, policies and procedures are adhered to. This person will act as a key point of contact with the Financial Director and the Managing Director.


Key Responsibilities

  • Defining and improving the systems and controls for the business as well as ensuring that processes are efficient and effective
  • Reviewing and approving prepared documents on our accounting systems, ensuring high level of accuracy
  • Driving the performance of the accounts team, including goal setting, performance measurement, and training
  • Ensure that the purchase ledger is kept up to date at all times and that suppliers are paid on time
  • Carry out credit control tasks such as chasing overdue accounts and checking and approving credit limits
  • Preparing clocking reports for weekly and monthly paid members of staff
  • Processing weekly and monthly payroll from start to finish
  • Ensure compliance with the Auto Enrolment pension scheme and ensure monthly PAYE payments are paid on time
  • Weekly reconciliation of various bank accounts and petty cash
  • Reconciling the monthly credit card statements and posting transactions to the purchase ledger
  • Reporting to the FD and MD with weekly sales figures, incoming material, credit control and any other monitored KPIs

Experience & Skills

  • Previous experience leading an accounts team function and managerial experience is desired but not essential
  • Strong reconciliation and problem-solving skills are required
  • Enjoy using your analytical skills to propose, assess and advise on solutions to problems your team may face
  • Strong Excel skills specifically pivot tables, lookups and IF/SUMIF formulas
  • Experience in using accounting systems and software (Sage 50 desirable)
  • Keen attention to detail and methodical approach to work; takes pride in work
  • Attention to detail, and an eye for opportunity in challenging costs.
  • Good organisational skills and ability to work to tight deadlines
  • Flexible and adaptable to changing business demand
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
  • Qualified accountant desired, although part qualified / QBE considered with significant relevant skills/experience.
