Platt’s Sales & Marketing Director, Nadia McKane, started the session by introducing herself and giving the students some information on what Platts do, how they were set up, and some of the important day-to-day activities that her job entails. Nadia also provided details on some of the areas of her role that take a longer time, such as converting a lead from a trade show into a full business-to-business working relationship.

Nadia then gave the students an insight into her journey from studying speech therapy at University in Manchester before deciding that this wasn’t the right path for her and transferring to Chester University to study marketing. Nadia later became a Marketing Assistant at Platts Agriculture and worked her way up to Sales & Marketing Director.

After the presentation, the students had the chance to get creative when Nadia set them a task to plan a marketing campaign for the launch of a clothing range aimed at farmers aged 17 – 25. The students used information that Nadia gave them in her presentation, including the 7p’s of marketing, to come up with an idea and think about how, where, for how much and to whom they’d market their product.

This event was one of many organised by the Young Chamber programme. The aim of these events is for students from schools and colleges from across West Cheshire & North Wales to gain an idea of the skills that are required when they leave education and start their careers. The events also help students improve important skills such as interview techniques, CV building, creating business ideas and many more.

When asked how she felt the event went, Nadia had the following to say:

“It was great to be able to share with the Year 12s at Castell Alun some examples of campaigns we run at Platts to bring the theories the students have been learning to life.

“I was really impressed with the creative ideas they came up with when set a task to develop a marketing plan for launching a new range of branded clothing for farmers!

“As a teenager, being part of Young Chamber in Cumbria encouraged me to pursue a career in marketing, and both myself and Platts are glad to be able to support a school so local to us and hopefully inspire some other young people into studying business further!”

Lauren Robinson, Head of Sixth Form at Castell Alun, added:

“As part of their level 3 qualification, Business students must embark on creating a marketing campaign and we were therefore thrilled to have Nadia join us for this event and inspire our students!

“Nadia, not only gave an informative talk on her role but set the students a scenario task to create a marketing campaign. Students were able to develop innovative and creative ideas while implementing knowledge passed on from Nadia’s talk. We enjoyed immensely working with a fantastic local business that helped our students to understand business in the real world.”

Thank you to Platts Agriculture for making this event possible.
