In “Farming a Greener Future,” our commitment to sustainability takes centre stage. The film highlights our innovative approaches and contributions to creating a more environmentally friendly and ethical livestock industry.
The Livestock Circle – Our Impact and Involvement:
As highlighted in the film, sustainable farming has the potential not only to lessen environmental impact but also to increase yields and promote healthier livestock. That’s where we step in.
Our products are meticulously crafted to foster a more sustainable farming industry. We achieve this by transforming manufacturing by-products into versatile animal bedding, establishing a lifecycle that benefits both suppliers and customers.
The lifecycle begins with responsibly sourced trees from the forest, supplied to our eco-conscious partners. These trees are then processed at manufacturing sites to create furniture and various other products. Instead of allowing the by-products to end up in landfills or be incinerated, we collect them in a trailer. Subsequently, these by-products are brought to our Llay site, where we manufacture them and dispatch the final products to farmers.
One of our standout products featured in the programme is our Powder Bed.
Designed to absorb moisture whilst being used sparingly, it plays a crucial role in reducing the amount of slurry produced. By keeping the cows clean, it contributes to lower bacterial presence and decreased cell counts, effectively reducing the incidence of mastitis. This, in turn, results in reduced antibiotic use and subsequently lowers veterinary bills.
The next aspect of our commitment to sustainability is in our production process. We’ve made substantial investments to pave the way for a more sustainable future. Notably, the baler showcased in the film is responsible for producing our Powder Bed and Fine Bed, and it has successfully led to a significant 30% reduction in plastic usage vs the previous machinery.
To enhance our operational efficiency, our hooder plays a role in waterproofing our pallets. This feature allows our customers to store them outdoors for up to two years without compromising their quality.
Moreover, we’ve implemented changes to increase the number of bales per pallet, effectively reducing the carbon footprint associated with each bale.
