The Roberts family farm is based on Anglesey, North Wales, milking 600 cows, and rearing all their own heifers too. Earlier this year, we headed out to speak with Tom Roberts, who’s been using Powderbed for some years now.

They have rubber mattresses in their 600+ cubicles for cow comfort, and use a dusting of Platts Powderbed on top at each milking time, to soak up any moisture on the beds.

In recent years, the Roberts’ have invested heavily in in a rotary milking parlour, meaning less time is spent milking for both cows and staff, and cows spend more time in their cubicles instead of in the collecting yard.

When we asked Tom what impact the updates to their system have had, here’s what he had to say:  “Alongside comfy cubicles with clean bedding, less time milking and more time eating, we are seeing increased lying down times which is leading to more milk produced by the cows. Cows lie down more and are nice and relaxed.”

“In terms of Platts, we are very happy with them. When you pick up the phone you get a good service, from sales to delivery. The product itself is very good and it’s consistent. We use a bobman to spread the sawdust onto the beds twice a day.

If the product is good, the cubicles are clean, then you’ll get less mastitis and more milk which makes more profit in the end.”

Powderbed is Platts premium cubicle conditioner, known for being just like talcum powder for cows. It’s super soft consistency prevents hock abrasions or sores, and since it’s super dry, it soaks up moisture, to keep udders clean and hygienic.

Available in bulk loose, on an artic walking floor, or baled on pallets for convenient outdoor storage, Powderbed is delivered to suit your system.
